Rodent & Wildlife Removal for Busy Homes
Request an estimate today
Scratching in the ceiling at night. Droppings behind the stove. A musty smell from the attic that wasn't there last month. These are the usual first signs of rodents or wildlife moving in, and they tend to spread the longer they go unchecked.
Valueloving Pest Control is a referral service. It does not do the removal. It connects homeowners across the Plano area with independent local providers who inspect, remove animals, and seal entry points. This page explains what you can safely do yourself, where to stop, and how providers can fit the work around school runs, remote work, and pets.
Scratching in the Attic or Walls? Start Here
Hear thumping at dusk? Find droppings along the baseboards? Something is probably living in your house. Stay calm, and don't plug any holes yet.
Valueloving Pest Control is a referral service. We point you toward independent providers in our network. The providers do the trapping, removal and repairs.
What You Can Safely Do Today
A few small jobs help the provider and cost you nothing but a little time.
Do This
- Note where you hear noise and at what time of day.
- Take photos of droppings, chew marks and stains.
- Wear gloves and a mask if you must clean up, and mist droppings first. Never sweep them dry.
- Trim branches that touch the roof.
- Keep kids and pets out of the attic.
Don't Do This
- Don't seal holes until you know the animals are out. Trapped animals chew, panic and die inside walls.
- Don't put poison in walls or attics. The smell can last for weeks.
- Don't handle bats, or any animal that may be a nursing mother.
Check the Timeline: Why Waiting Costs You
Timing changes the outcome. Here is how it usually goes.
The First Few Days
Animals scout, then settle in. They use the warm, dry spots, and storm season pushes more of them indoors. This is the easiest time for a provider to find the entry point.
The First Few Weeks
Mice can breed quickly. Squirrels and raccoons may have young in the attic. Droppings and urine soak into insulation, and chewing starts on wires and ducts.
After a Month or More
Now you may be dealing with damaged wiring, matted insulation, stains on the ceiling and a smell that won't go away. The repair list grows, and so does the estimate.
Signs to Watch For
- Scratching, rolling or thumping sounds, mostly at night
- Droppings in drawers, corners, the attic or the garage
- Greasy rub marks along walls
- Gnawed boxes, wires, pipes or food packaging
- Torn insulation or nesting material
- A sharp urine smell or a musty odor
- Pets staring at one wall or vent
Common Animals Providers Handle
Roof rats, house mice, squirrels, raccoons, opossums, bats and birds in vents are the usual list. Hot attics in this region draw animals looking for shade. Slab ranch homes give them easy roofline access. Older pier-and-beam houses let them in through the crawlspace.
Each animal needs a different plan, which is why a guess from the driveway rarely works.
How Rodent and Wildlife Removal Works
Inspection
The provider checks the roofline, vents, foundation, attic and crawlspace. They look for entry points and signs of how many animals there are.
Removal
Expect traps, one-way doors or other methods that suit the animal. Follow-up visits are common.
Sealing and Cleanup
Once the animals are out, the provider seals gaps with metal, mesh or other durable materials. Many also offer cleanup and insulation replacement.
Humane Handling and Local Rules
Some animals are protected, and bats and nesting birds often have seasonal limits. Rules on trapping and relocating vary by state and town. Ask the provider how they follow the rules where you live and what they do with live animals.
Work Around Life: Planning the Visits
Busy house? Say so up front. Ask about visit windows, attic access, and what to do about pets and kids on the day. Many jobs need only a short visit to start, with follow-ups to check traps.
Request a callback to check provider availability around your schedule.
Choosing a Removal Provider
- Ask for a written quote that lists what's included.
- Ask how they find and seal entry points, not just how they trap.
- Check that they hold any license your state requires.
- Ask about follow-up visits and what happens if animals return.
- Be wary of anyone who suggests poison in the walls as a first step.
Keeping Animals Out for Good
Seal, then call is wrong here, so flip the order: get the animals out first, then seal. After that, you can do plenty yourself.
- Close gaps wider than a quarter inch with steel wool and caulk, or metal mesh.
- Fit tight lids on trash cans.
- Store pet food in sealed bins.
- Trim branches back from the roof.
- Check vent covers and screens each spring and after storms.

No obligationRodent & Wildlife Removal FAQ
- Should I seal the hole if I hear animals in my attic?
- Not yet. Sealing can trap animals inside, where they may chew, panic or die in the walls. Wait until a provider confirms the animals are out, then seal the entry points for good.
- How do I know if it's mice, rats or something bigger in my ceiling?
- Light, quick scratching often means mice. Heavier thumping or running can point to rats, squirrels or raccoons. Droppings size and the time of day also give clues. A provider can inspect and confirm what you have.
- Is it safe to clean up rodent droppings myself?
- Small amounts, yes, with care. Wear gloves and a mask, mist the droppings with disinfectant first, and wipe them up. Never sweep or vacuum them dry. For large attic messes, ask a provider about cleanup.
